Common workout mistakes to avoid for beginners
If you are here because you would like to take your health into your own hands and start with a more active lifestyle, then please have look at the list of mistakes that we have all possibly made on the road. We have all been beginners and made various mistakes on the way but also learned from them. You can be the one who learns from someone else’s mistakes without actually making them yourself.
Working out with your ego
Do not go after your personal record when you are just starting out (even though anything is a record at this point, am I right?). Give yourself some time to create a basis before putting it to the test. Prioritize technique - get to know the exercises you are doing. And then start building on top of that.
Impressing others
Working out should come from your inner motivation. Whatever is your goal, do it for yourself and do not try to impress others. Do not put eggs into someone else’s basket. Do it for yourself, the approval comes from within, even though sometimes we don’t like to accept that.
Too much “healthy” food
Can there be a limit for something that is good? Eating healthy is important for our health and wellbeing but the method of eating 100% of healthy food does not work when you are constantly going over your daily calorie limit. Always try to reach a balanced diet and meeting your dietary goals (including the calorie intake).
Not focusing on your body as a whole
If you choose to be active, then do not neglect the less enjoyable parts of the workout. To put simply, if you are lifting weights, then make sure you do not skip any body parts over the course of time. Don’t just focus on your abs for example. This way you avoid creating muscle imbalances and reduce the risk of injuries.
Not staying consistent
Working out on and off again is better than not working out at all but this method fails to create a healthy habit. Following habits is part of human nature. But it needs a change in our mindset. When you don’t stay consistent, you can’t really see any results and working out might seem like a waste of time. It does not become your routine, it’s not part of your life. Sticking to promises you made to yourself could lead to the change in your appearance and in your approach to training. You might even start to like it!
Going too far
Sometimes less is more. It might get addictive, I am telling you! But during recuperation, your body is renewed. You will actually get bigger, stronger and faster during resting periods. Give yourself plenty of rest (but not too much so you never come back!).
Copying others
Emulating others does not give you the same results as we are all different. Find your own path, your own journey. If you have trouble with it, hire a trainer. Be happy in your own skin and enjoy being unique.
All in all, mistakes are what mold us. Mistakes teach us to make better choices so don’t be afraid of making mistakes. But always make sure to learn from them.
But what’s the biggest mistake of them all?
